The Twist Tower is a 240-meter-high building in Manhattan, whose facade design was inspired by the garments of the Australian fashion designer Dion Lee. Due to the square plan (30*30 meters) and the central positioning on the elongated, rectangular plot, the tower has two independent public spaces. The entire facade design is based on a concept that Dion Lee has applied to different dresses. It is a technique in which fabric or leather
strips are screwed in – creating a complex effect – the production of which is quite simple in contrast. These twisted facade strips give the building a changing facade. Depending on the angle of view, different patterns and effects occur. The four meter high facade elements are suspended and thus do not restrict the design options of the interior. For example, this allows the execution of different floor heights. On the ground floor, which is eight meters high, there is a universal lobby, private elevators for the apartments and offices, and another for the publicly accessible restaurants, coffee houses, clubs and other facilities on the upper floors.
